Glenisk Embraces Wind Energy

Glenisk Wind TurbineGlenisk has installed its first wind turbine at our plant in Killeigh, Co Offaly. Long time supporters of renewable energy, our plant has been powered by Airtricity for many years. We're delighted to have our own turbine now in place. This first turbine powers our reed beds, filtering waste water, helping us to further reduce the environmental impact of our business. Opinion is sometimes divided on how these turbines affect the view of the landscape, but we feel they have a beauty of their own, augmented by the contribution they make. Imagine for example if Dublin City Council had had the foresight to erect one on O'Connell Street in place of the spire ...

Our Carbon Footprint

The installation of the turbine is part of an ongoing process at Glenisk to reduce our carbon footprint and protect the envioronment. We are currently conducting a major audit programme of our plant and our farms with a view to comprehensively measuring our impact, and reducing it. We have been fortunate enough to have received a number of awards in recent years for our environmental activities including increasing our internal recycling rate, improving our packaging and converting our vehicles. And of course, organic agriculture is a less intensive kind of farming, promoting biodiversity and eliminating the need for adding chemicals to the soil which depletes it.

Glenisk Wind TurbineOur aim is to keep sustainability at the heart of everything we do. We've yet to achieve all we want to - it's a journey that requires time and commitment, one step at a time.
